Embroidery for Wellbeing
Following this unprecedented series of events, we've moved our popular workshop, usually hosted at The Create Place in Bethnal Green online.
These weekly classes will certainly offer some creative support and needed distraction as we adjust to this new challenging chapter of humankind. Let's stay creative through all this, nurture our imagination towards hope and positivity despite all challenges.
We've created an easy form through which you can book your ticket.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each month we work on a different project. You can virtually attend all three workshops or just one, depending on your needs and desires.
We'll be using Zoom as an online platform. Please make sure you download the app on your phone, laptop or tablet. The larger the screen, the better.
You'll receive a link to access the online room following payment.
The option of receiving a complimentary kit will be available for those of you who might not have any materials at hand or at home. Please detail this clearly in the comments section of the form, along with your postal address.
You can buy a single ticket up to Wednesday morning, however it's a first come and first served system and workshop places are limited.
YOU MUST BOOK YOUR TICKET AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE COMPLIMENTARY KIT.
You have to fill in this form for every individual date you are interested in. I'm working to improve this.
Read below about each month's project.

Learn to use textile collage techniques borrowed from appliqué designs, Japanese and Indian embroidery, abstract painting and quilting traditions.
In this workshop you'll be using small scraps of fabric, ideally: leftover from previous projects, or small cut outs from your fabric stash. I'd like to stress the ethos behind this project, which is all about recycling and finding beauty and value in those pieces we usually throw away. It's the challenge and the fun of this workshop.
We'll talk about the importance of composition and balance when creating a collage, but also, the many different approaches that exist when it comes to assembling. Please bring your intuition!
May: Coming soon
June: Coming soon
Each month we'll be focusing on a different slow project.
Whether you come at the beginning and attend all three classes, or can only make one, this workshop will benefit you in equal measure.
You're welcome to continue your project at home too, or to pick it up from where you left it the last time you attended. We hope that these slow projects can help you develop a healthy creative practice to support your wellbeing and skills.

Image shows an example of a kit content.
We've put together these kits so that you can attend this online workshop even if you're a complete beginner and have no scraps.
Each kit contains a carefully selected amount of fabrics chosen for their contrasting qualities, textures or pattern, and threads (embroidery and utility) for your to develop two coasters. Also included: felt, four pins, two needles. Scissors are not included.
The irregular shape of some of the scraps has been kept intentionally. We'll talk more about this during the workshop.
Please read carefully the instructions above when filling the form.
We'll try and make sure you get colours you like, but sometimes this might not be possible.
We have four kits available right now:
- Peachy & Gold
- Urban Fun
- Red and Blue Joy
- Bright and Bold Summer
