A workshop very much about transformation, experimentation, and imaginative flights in and out of the realm of embroidery and mending.
Think about the textile ingeniousness and the craftsmanship of the past: Indian kantha quilts made with old saris, or crazy quilts made with leftover scraps in the US, folk embroidery of Eastern Europe. Think 70s patched garments, and the use of textiles as protest and resistance, think today’s visible mending appreciation or Japanese Sashiko stitching...or maybe embroidery as a form of drawing and painting?
In this workshop we celebrate these traditions, but offer a space for experimentation and conversation with these techniques, approaches and aesthetics. You probably won’t be exploring all of them, but you will choose where to take your garment using your imagination accompanied with live online professional guidance, images and videos.
This is an intimate and personal workshop where garments with a sentimental side are welcome.
If you take a single workshop, you’ll probably start and know how to finish a specific part of your garment. If you take the bundle, you’ll be able to develop a multi-faceted piece and multiple techniques. This is why the workshops are spaced with 1 month in between.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
You can virtually attend all three workshops or just one, depending on your needs and desires.
If you book the bundle, you'll have three months to work on your project. This allows you to explore, learn and experiment in depth, and, I'd say, work on a bigger project and develop different skills.
We'll be using Zoom as an online platform. Please make sure you download the app on your phone, laptop or tablet. The larger the screen, the better.
You'll receive an email 1 hour before the workshop with a link, a presentation to download and sometimes video materials via Wetransfer.
The option of receiving a complimentary kit may be available for those of you who might not have any materials at hand or at home. Please detail this clearly in the comments section of the form, along with your postal address. I'll see what I can do!
You can buy a single ticket up to Wednesday morning, however it's a first come and first served system. Workshop places are limited and classes are small.
If you're buying the bundle, specify it in the comments section and I will send you the right link to close your order.
No refunds available.
YOU MUST BOOK YOUR TICKET AT LEAST ONE WEEK IN ADVANCE TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE THE COMPLIMENTARY KIT (if the option exists for your workshop).
